In this book, I propose the fairly unorthodox argument that these five preconceived assumptions are not as awful as they appear. Indeed, the true basis of our concerns is our fear of certain things and our efforts to reject them. Once we learn to accept and appreciate these essential truths, we will discover that they are exactly what we require to have bravery, love, and wisdom - in short, to be happy. A given is an unchangeable fact of life over which we have no control. It's something we can't change, something that's built into the fabric of things. In addition to the five anxiety-inducing presets mentioned above, there are also expected presets: we feel complete joy, achieve positive results, and explore possibilities. We have a special inner gift; we solve a problem, good fortune comes our way, or miracles occur. There are other stereotypes that exclusively apply to individuals: our physical appearance and personality, our intrinsic or restricted psychological and spiritual skills, and our personality. our genetic make-up, our intelligence quotient (IQ), our lifestyle, our introverted or extroverted personality, and so on. Indeed, something is implicit in everything we do and wherever we go. The disadvantage of having a paying job is that we can be promoted or dismissed, among other things. A relationship has the potential to last a lifetime or to end right now. I've discovered that anything that contradicts our Self is a potent source of inner development and progression. Five simple facts of existence confront and scare the great ego, which is determined to seize complete control. Life happens to us in its own way, no matter how much we reject or attempt to escape it, and no one is or has ever been free from the unavoidable. If we can't stand them, we're adding stress to our lives by taking a risk we're bound to lose. In this book, I'll explain why it's not necessary for us to feel hopeless when confronted with the inevitable events of life. We can learn to accept life within its constraints. We don't need to claim a waiver or seek refuge in a religious system that promises a heaven free of preconceptions to soothe the blows of preconceptions. By accepting reality as it is, we can live a healthy and true existence. Indeed, our path is one of "letting things be as they are." The story of the Buddha's enlightenment demonstrates how our preconceptions in life are critical to our growth and change. Siddhartha Gautama, an Indian prince, was the name given to Buddha when he was born. His father wished to shield him from pain and disappointment. Siddhartha's father designed a perfect existence for him, providing him with every imaginable satisfaction and shielding him from every unhappiness. But the little prince had a desire to see the outside world one day. When he ventured outside the palace, he was confronted for the first time with illness, old age, and death - the natural conditions of all life. These scenes impacted him deeply and led him on a spiritual quest to enlightenment. His extraordinary metamorphosis begins with his curiosity and courage in addressing the laws of existence. Since ancient times, mankind has been disturbed by the five predetermined things of existence. Religions have offered solutions to such mystical realities. In this book, I shall draw on Buddhist and other global faiths' teachings. Spiritual traditions give us precious energies and inspiration to meet life's assumptions with openness and calm. I draw significantly on the Buddhist tradition since it emphasizes the need of seeing through our illusions and addressing life's prejudices in order to become more meaningful in the world.
